I have used self-storage before, plus I worked for a self-storage facility, so I am familiar with the process. Moving in was quick and easy, the facility provided a lock (the company I worked for did not), and there are small hand trucks to move your stuff.

This is my first time renting a storage unit and found it to be a very clean and safe facility. My only issue is with how the charges are calculated. I rented a small unit at the Estero FL site to store my daughter's college items during the summer break because we live in the Northeast. However, had to pay for an entire last month even though we will be checking out of the unit mid-month.
