CubeSmart Self Storage - Des Plaines

Pretty straight-forward-- the inside of my cube was a little dirty and the metal on the walls were falling apart, so I knocked down 2 stars for that. Other than that, everything else was pretty good and I would recommend this facility. Just one note--I went to the Elk Grove location to use a truck and it was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Front desk person was (she said she was new, but there's still a base-level of competency a worker should have) unprofessional, unhelpful, and straight up incompetent at her job. I would never visit this location again.

Everyone was very helpful and I was given exactly what I was promised. I would recommend this storage facility to anyone. We might continue to use the storage even after the time frame we had planned just because the experience and quality of what we are paying is worth it! Great Job Cube Smart!!

Great that you can drive right up to the storage unit and every unit has a light and is clean.

Finding a storage that was decently priced for a 10 x 10 unit was extremely difficult in the area and luckily we found this place! The unit was clean and the office was friendly. The only downside was it took a little long getting the unit as the lady that helped us was a little too friendly. Overall a good experience

move in was painless and the staff the very accommodating. There was a little confusion related to using my own insurances instead of purchasing from the facility but it was sorted out and I ended up being able to use my homeowners policy.

It's a 5x10 corrugated steel box. Quite lovely.

A huge price gap with three other storage places. The range difference was over $79. Pretty much all the storage places are the same, I went with the lowest cost and so far so good.

very very helpful customer service. only been there a very short time, however, if you decide to jack up the rental rate again after 6 mths. I will move out of there again.

Location good; customer service person as friendly as a drill sergeant or your average stereotypical employee at the Department of Motor Vehicles; but perhaps there's a reason for that: Regional Manager's letter to employees I saw on the desk threatening them with punishment an/or termination for petty violations and for "stealing his time" by taking breaks a few minutes longer than allowed shows that this company is run by penny-pinching, worker-hating scum - again, typical for USA. The space I rented was a half a foot smaller all around but I got no reduction in price for that. Typical ripoff you can expect from every self-storage facility in corrupt USA. Customer service employee illegally tried to foist $12.00/month insurance policy on me I did not need, stating that insurance is required by the lease. Again, typical ripoff swindle the sheep here in USA are all too happy to comply with. I refused to buy insurance and was not charged. The place seems to be pretty well maintained and clean; no after-office-hours public restrooms that I could find; another ripoff. Policy regarding late fees and lien auctions seems slightly less onerous than most of these thieving companies. We'll see.

Experience was good but I have one complaint. If someone is moving into a storage unit using a moving truck, the driveway is incredibly difficult to maneuver. There is a very sharp turn into the facility and it is an extremely steep ramp. After having driven 14 hours with my belongings and not having dented any of them, a few of my pieces were scratched after pulling into the driveway of this facility, as there was no way to get up this driveway ramp "gracefully" and my truck rocked from side to side. Additionally the turns within the facility were sharp and narrow. These were drivable with a truck, but not the best. If I were to change anything it would be the entry ramp.

Staff is nice, and overall the facility does what it is supposed to. 24/hr access is crucial and they included it for free, which was a huge selling point.
